The word “influencer” doesn’t appear in any quotes from party sources or the linked convention material—it’s just editorializing on the part of the Washington Post.

Is WaPo just inserting the term to discredit non-corporate media?

They use the term content creator. It’s the same thing. Biden has been open about collaborating with them in the past

Is it the same thing, though?

Technically, any independent blogger or YouTuber is a “content creator”. But (at least in my impression of normal usage), an influencer is specifically a content creator trying to leverage their “influence” over the purchasing decisions of their followers.

Yeah no, “content creator” makes me think like Sam seder or TYT or maybe destiny. “Influencer” is some Instagram model that gets railed in Dubai porta potties.

Technically, at least in the old school marketing definition, an influencer is just someone who has enough of the public’s attention to wield influence. You don’t have to be actively trying to sell stuff

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The committee plans to provide influencers the same level of access and information that traditional media outlets receive, and will open a credential request process for creators to cover the event, a DNCC official told The Washington Post.

The DNCC has also hired full-time staff members specifically focused on influencer engagement, and will have volunteers on-site to offer creator support.

Cayana Mackey-Nance, the convention’s director of digital strategy, framed the plan as “leveling the playing field between content creators and traditional media, and ensuring that more Americans than ever before are able to experience and engage with this critical part of our Democratic process.”

“We are meeting Americans where they are and making sure they know what’s on the line in November, no matter how or where they see their content,” said Matt Hill, the convention committee’s senior director of communications.

At United Center, the credentialed creators will be able to access work and lounge spaces, including the penthouse, lower bowl, media row and Studio24, the convention’s in-house studios.

Influencers who attended the walkthrough asked committee staff if their credentials would be pulled if they posted content from the convention that is critical of Biden.
