I just saw one of OPs posts from 3 days ago. They were one of those people saying Biden was committing genocide.

So they are just anti-Biden period and switched to a different criticism. The “genocide Joe” label wasn’t sticking so they changed to the new one.

        Safe to block.

They were one of those people saying Biden was committing genocide.

Yes, I’ve been saying that for 9 months now. Because it’s true.

So they are just anti-Biden period and switched to a different criticism.

I don’t care about Biden being old. In fact, I think it’s sad that people care about his age more than they care about him committing genocide.

This post is about the Democrats being liars, not about Biden’s age.

There’s literally no reason to believe you are the same person. We we believed that, it would be an excellent way to exploit us.

Even so, this ain’t Reddit. You need to go ahead and learn that right now.

You’re new here, and you’re posting stuff that opposes the only person standing between America and a rapid fall into violent authoritarianism. Welcome to Lemmy and don’t carry water for fascists if you want to have a good time.

Look, I’ll vote for Biden this fall, because really, voting blue is the only serious option. And I’d be all for Weekend At Bernie’s the entire 4 years of his second term; there is a chain of succession and he’ll have people around him that are competent. I’m not worried about that. Anything else is helping donnie.

But c’mon. Is Biden the only candidate that the Democratic Party really has? Can he actually win? After that performance?

People are acting like the job is easy.

But reports are coming out Biden is always like this in the evening…

Which is why we call it Sundowning, and it’s a normal part of aging.

He’s signing up to be the president though, traveling the globe is part of that, and emergencies might happen after 8pm.

He’s just not able to handle it, which is fine. He’s 81 and I’m like 99% he’d be out oldest president.

The big problem is his refusal to admit this is happening, again, completely normal. But not acceptable for the leader of America

I’m not even pushing some crazy conspiracy theories but just clarifying that sundowning is NOT a normal part of aging. Sundowning is only a symptom of dementia that doesn’t affect healthy old folks.

          It happens to everyone eventually.

Either you die, or you live long enough for this to be a concern.

Dementia is more prevalent at older ages. About 3% of adults ages 70 to 74 had dementia in 2019, compared with 22% of adults ages 85 to 89 and 33% of adults ages 90 and older.6

          https://www.prb.org/resources/fact-sheet-u-s-dementia-trends/

And in case you haven’t heard, being president tends to speed up the normal effects of aging due to stress.

Biden has spent 12 years in the White House, and half a century in federal politics.

Like, this ain’t a binary thing, it accumulates over time pretty much constantly.

And Biden is 100% showing signs that are 100% normal for his age.

I mean, this is the American healthcare system, do you think those numbers are actual rates or more people in their 70s and 80s can’t afford treatment anyways and go undiagnosed?

And sundowning is something that happens prior to a dementia diagnosis…

It’s literally one of the first warning signs that often goes ignored and rationalized for years or even a decade before diagnosis happens. Lots of times there’s never a diagnosis, because we just accept it as normal at that age.

              Huh?

              I’m not trying to argue.

Just pointing out that sundowning alone isn’t dementia.

It’s one of the first recognizable signs. Lots of geriatric people experience years of sundowning before full blown dementia.

You seemed to be acting like dementia was a binary thing, and the same as dementia. That’s not how it develops. You have nights like Biden had at the debate, slowly more and more frequently till it’s not just happening at night. It’s happening all the time.

Biden’s team hasn’t been honest about his progression, we don’t know how bad it is because they’re hiding it.

But we sure as shit know that it doesn’t get better. And he’s trying to say he’s ready for 4 more years of the most stressful job in America, at a time when it’s even more stressful than normal.

Biden is a risk, and even if he wins, he’s not magically capable just because he won an election.

If Biden wins. We’re stuck with him as president for four more years unless he dies. If he won’t bow out now, he’s not doing it during his second term.

This is why people shouldn’t need to have to choose between two 80 year old candidates

The presidency requires a lot of travel. If your performance and capabilities are significantly affected by jet lag, you probably shouldn’t be the president of a large and powerful nation. I imagine Trump will be affected just as much by jet lag as well if he were elected.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The president’s remarks come amid intra-party panic ahead of November’s election over his mental fitness, and after a congressman from Texas became the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to call for him to step aside following the debate.

“I am hopeful that he will make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw,” Rep Lloyd Doggett said in a statement on Tuesday.Mr Biden appeared to struggle through some responses during a debate with former President Donald Trump last Thursday.

"It’s not an excuse but an explanation,” he said at a private fundraiser in Virginia on Tuesday evening, referring to his travel. He also apologised for his performance and said it was “critical” that he win re-election, according to ABC News.Mr Biden made two separate trips to Europe within two weeks last month.

Incoherent debate performance heightens age fearsPanic and confusion as Democrats weigh Biden’s futureOn 15 June, he appeared at a fundraiser alongside former President Barack Obama after an overnight trip from Italy.

His spokesman, Andrew Bates, said the president began “working well before” 11:00, after his exercise routine, during his time at Camp David. His age has been a long-simmering issue this election, with voters in multiple polls saying they think he is too old to be effective.Mr Biden is currently the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for the White House.

"Congressman Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, told MSNBC this weekend that the debate created a “difficult situation”.He acknowledged that there were "very honest and serious and rigorous conversations taking place at every level of our party.

I don’t give a rip about Biden’s age - it’s just a number and I’m not someone dumb enough to think being younger makes a politician somehow magically better than someone older. And if he’s slower and has senior moments - SFW. As long as he wins. Then Kamala can be President if he needs to step down. But we need to win. And that is not likely to happen with the way things are going right now.

Of course, we all should vote Dem so we still have a democracy in the future. And I’m not overly picky, so long as they can win. So that should be the question - and if Biden’s age impacts his ability to win, the Dems should choose someone who can.

The problem with Biden is that he’s going to lose to Trump. Voters’ major concern about Biden was his age, and he completely validated those concerns last week. His polls are bad and getting worse, and we can’t wait and see if they get better; we don’t have that much time to waste. We need to replace him.

A contested convention is risky, but it’s our best shot right now. It would dominate the news cycle for at least two weeks and create energy and excitement in the base. As long as we come out with someone generally inoffensive, we have a good shot of winning. My pick would be Gavin Newsom; I don’t particularly like him, but he’s polling on Biden without even campaigning.

It is now very unlikely that Biden will win the election. Acknowledging that isn’t the problem, and ignoring it and hoping it goes away isn’t the solution. We need to accept it and find a solution.

I don’t care about Joe Biden’s age. I care about the fact that the Democrats are obviously lying to us.

It took days for them to come up with the “jet lag” explanation (though they instantly said it was a cold), and he hasn’t travelled internationally for two weeks. Come on, they’re lying.

For many people, I think the shock of Biden’s debate performance was less about the shock of Biden being feeble and more about the shock of realizing that the Democrats have been lying about his feebleness for so long

His age is not what is dooming American democracy. The Democrats being nothing but lies and spin and PR is what is dooming American democracy.

They serve the same corporate interests as Trump but can’t be honest about it, so they dissemble and evade and lie like it’s a habit.

And now some of their lies are crashing down, and they’re still just trying to spin and PR their way out of it.

Call your Senators, Congressman, State Rep, anyone with a D in front of their name. Tell them you’ve lost confidence in Biden and want the party to pressure him into stepping down before the convention. Then we can hold a contested convention, where the delegates will probably take several rounds of voting to decide a candidate. It’s risky, but not as risky as doing nothing. It would also steal the headlines from Trump for a least a few weeks, which could build some momentum for the new candidate.

I don’t think it’s going to steal them in a negative way. These things usually go by very quickly, and it’s unlikely to become a drawn out, bitter affair like the last few primaries have been. If Biden drops out with grace, and the candidates all agree to keep things positive, it could be a huge boon for the party. Ezra Klein covered it in depth on his podcast this week, it’s worth a listen.

      Big Feinstein energy here…

Dude doesn’t fucking know what’s going on. He’s not fit to run a Dairy Queen. Let alone a major world power.

You think Biden is trying to let trump win by splitting the Dem voter base?

I don’t think he’s doing it intentionally like Stein, but if he refuses to drop, yeah, that’s what he’s doing.

Nope just mean I’m getting a lot of ‘hey if everyone just votes third party we can will ourselves out of this predicament’. In reality many of the end goals of the commenters align with both leftist and far right efforts to capitalize.

I’m getting a lot of ‘hey if everyone just votes third party we can will ourselves out of this predicament’.

I mean, I block a lot of people who don’t seem to be here in good faith, so it’s possible they’re here and I just don’t see them.

But the only thing I see a lot of, is people pointing out Biden has historically bad poll numbers, and if we switched candidates we’d have a better shot. Be a use right now, it’s going to be the Dem candidate or trump as president.

              Long term tho?

Yeah, eventually we need to acknowledge the DNC is fucking up and we need a new party. That’s a discussion for the day after the election though.

I just hope this time everyone doesn’t immediately tune out after the election.

Agree. DNC needs a huge reckoning. Took a deep dive into one of the commenters history and this is a shitty satire of that. Also the Jill Stein simping.

Bruh. Some of us are pro D or vehemently anti R and supported Biden up until the disaster last Thu. Some of us are able to see that we are FUCKED if we don’t change course.

Before you accuse me of being a vatnik, check my fucking history. You will find that I despise Rs and advocate for the West to mount a covert war to destroy the russian state. Having been born into a Ukrainian/Moldovan family.

I was just as ready to bail I’m sure you can’t find such in my comment history as well. It was a disaster. My comment wasn’t aimed at everyone. I think it’s fitting for some here but not you.

This. I’m behind Biden 100% if he’s on the ticket this fall. No other option. But I’d much rather the Democratic Party switch him out right now, because the low-info, the Elevated Centrists, the normies, etc…are going to stay home or vote for donnie given what we all saw with our own eyes. It hurts to say it, even to think it, but it’s the truth. And it will cost us dearly as anyone in this country that is not some far-right wing demon.

No amount of DNC gaslighting is going to change that fact.
