As ProPublica investigated those preventable deaths and five others across three states in the past few years, reporters found that abortion bans have influenced how doctors and hospitals respond to pregnancy complications. Facing risks of prison time and professional ruin, doctors have delayed key interventions until they can document that a fetus’ heart is no longer beating or that a case meets a narrow legal exception. Some physicians say their colleagues are discharging or transferring pregnant patients instead of taking responsibility for their care.
There it is.
But you already knew this was happening.
Also, ProPublica is cited many times in the article. Thank goodness for investigative journalism and ProPublica.
Wow. This is quite the catch 22. Texas will criminally charge doctors if they help, which will lead to sanctions from the medical board (any criminal charges does this). And the board will sanction them if they don’t help.
Sounds like a great setup for inspiring a mass exodus of doctors in your state.
Would the board actually sanction them if they did it legitimately? They’d still be hounded by the state, but the board as well?
With medical licenses criminal charges, arrests, etc must be reported. The respective boards then suspend or revoke.
My point is, either way, the health care professional is fucked.
Ya, I get their fucked either way, I guess what I’m just trying to clarify is
If the state charges them, will the board always follow the state charges, or will the board contest the charges if disagreed and they think the abortion was legitimate?
Having criminal charges and retaining a medical license, I’m not going to say it’s never happened because I’m not prepared to spend that much time researching the details, but while the charges are active and unless you’re exonerated, your license to practice is fucked.
Ahh, I see what you’re saying now. The mere fact there are charges becomes a problem. Thanks!
We’re going to SAVE BABIES by KILLING PREGNANT MOMS!
-Republicans!
Working as expected!
This was by design
O no samctions
Over the last decade or so it seems that the medical profession has become no more than a profit taking industry with patient care secondary at best but usually much worse
