Puppydome 2026 kicking off with a historic 1v1v1 no paws barred fight between Fred, Timmy, and Meg.
Waiting to be unloaded again, what fun. Massive traffic jam on the Logan motorway heading east in the opposite direction to me thankfully. Heard a few sirens earlier from our yard which is right next to the motorway. Doesn’t seem like a good thing.
Anyway I cancelled my Starlink internet yesterday, it’s the smaller Roam one as there was a big surcharge for the full sized one. I’ve had it a fair few months but I’m sick of it dropping out. It can do that a few times during a movie. Must admit I have trees around which doesn’t help. And when it pisses down it drops out more than it drops in.
I’ve now got a modem and Sim card. Signed up with Belong. Watched something last night and it didn’t drop out once. There’s no NBN going past my place currently. The street behind me has it and I’ve read that you can access it through your neighbours yard. You hopefully ask nicely and get permission. It’s currently a bare block so I could look into that. I daresay I won’t.
Also Starlink started increasing their prices so I’ll be saving a little bit ($20) per month now with an extra 60 GB. ( Half price too for the first 2 months ) The Starlink was 100 GB so I had to be watchful which isn’t great.
Currently near Ipswich ( New Chum, who knew that was a place ? ) then to Rocklea. Once again good to be out of the workshop. Having been a contractor and a serviceman most of my working life means that turning up to the same place all the time gets a bit crap in ways.
Anyway I’m winning millions on Lotto tonight after a few recent false flags so I won’t have to talk to you pleasants after today. Cheers ;)

Wow that sucks. I thought the whole point of it and the reason people went with it was supposed to be that it doesn’t do that…
I’m pretty sure the only people who think Starlink is good as a home connection are people who think “the internet” is “the wireless”.
I ran it for our small business briefly when HFC (also gross, FYI) was constantly going down. It made VOIP calls a 2G mobile network simulator - random robot glitches as the latency went in to the triple digits, and disconnects which on the router show as single digit seconds of disconnection but are enough to drop a call.
Can’t wait until our HFC gets upgraded to FTTP. I have that at home and it’s beautiful. 1000/400Mbps means you never even think about internet. It just works. Everything works. Upload all the things, download all the things, never see a spinny loading symbol. Delicious.
I had HFC from 2020 until about a year ago, when I moved somewhere with FTTP. To be honest, in normal operation I don’t really notice the difference. It was plenty fast enough. I’m on the plan that used to be 100 down (20 up I think? Not actually sure.) but got upgraded to 500 for free.
The real difference is that the ageing coaxial part of HFC used to cause it to cut out completely every few weeks and require me to restart my router, the NTD, or both. The brand new fibre is so reliable.

Have made it back, all is good. I went to a scrapyard on my way back and drove through a hell hole called Palama. Do you know it ? Big massive houses with roofs 300 mm away from each other. Some of the houses were seriously huge. What a horrible place.
I don’t recognise the name, and can’t find it in Maps. Is it possible for dreamed up the name?
The description sounds like most housing estates though. 300m² blocks filled with houses that include media rooms and walk in wardrobes so you end up with your house basically rubbing cheeks with your neighbours. Honestly at that point buy a duplex or townhouse. Or even an apartment. It’s not like there’s any lawn there to worry about.
There’s been a few posts on various “dodgy builders exposed” type groups of late about the brickwork between two houses looking rough and there’s honestly less than a hands width between. I can only imagine how manky and wet that area is going to get, and how many possums die after getting wedged in there.
Yes they had 300 M2 blocks and also about twice as big. The houses seemed as you said even on the bigger blocks. There are some impressive looking places but like fuck, where are you. I could see a lovely looking balcony and it was right next to the fence right next to the main road that I was driving down. Just a shit location in my eyes.

On Friday I was supposed to pick up some free solar panels on my way home. The deal was that he would send me his address just before I left work. I reminded him at that time but still got no address. Yesterday the same thing happened with a different bloke, however this time he replied to say he had given them to another person. People are strange.
Anyway it’s damn cold and leaving the sanctuary of my cosy slumber cocoon was mighty difficult, but here I am. I think it’s about -30

This morning on my ride to work, I approached a left turn into a side street. There’s a pedestrian waiting at a refuge island to cross in front of me. The car in front of me ignores him and goes.
I stop, because I insist on following right of way laws. Following the law in this situation is the most predictable and therefore safe thing you can do. Plus, though I was on a bike, the biggest problem is with the sense of entitlement drivers have that leads to them presuming right of way when they don’t have it.
Anyway, the pedestrian refuses to go. I wave him on, I tell him he has right of way. He says “no I don’t”. Then a car coming from the other direction who was stopped (for the other car and, presumably, me) starts turning right. No way am I having that. I move forward to block the intersection fully to let the pedestrian go.
Another pedestrian arrives. With the two of them, they eventually go, and then I continue.
But fuck me. I try to follow the law Alby doing something that’s both safer and more convenient for this arsehole and all I get in return is spray? Fuck.

I can understand the pedestrian here, car before you failed to give way, and now the blue car looks like it will run them over if they continue to cross, despite you doing the right thing and giving way.
You’re right, self entitlement of drivers is beyond fucked. Hope the rest of your ride was better.

It didn’t quite rise to the level I would describe as verbal abuse, but it was only one step below that. At first I’m pretty sure the pedestrian was waiting for me to go. But after a while of back and forth, the blue car then started to try to turn. At that point I moved forward so I was physically blocking the intersection. It could not have been clearer that the pedestrian was completely safe at that point but he just wanted to argue.
This was right at the very end of my ride, which put a dampener on what was otherwise an incredibly lovely morning commute. Trip home was excellent without any real issues.
