they’re super not waterproof! sony had some “sport” walkmen that featured rubber seals and a lil locking clip, but even those i’d be careful around water with hahah
My first yellow Sony Walkman Sports, the yellow one, fell into The Chuck while I was working on the pens at a fish farm. A week later it was found on a ‘mort’ dive and, yeah, I should’ve been more careful.
I was more careful with the second one and didn’t trust the belt clip.
Ha! I can confirm that the first one only succumbed because the 3.5mm let the water in. The second lasted, oh, longer than my discman. I remember using it in '94ish - 3+ years later - when I’d had a discman in '88ish. The cassettes were so much better on the move.
i actually used mine (acquired secondhand) as a car stereo for a hot minute! the cd player in my first car had a very weak laser, but it DID have an aux port!

i have that same one! funnily enough they actually hold up REALLY WELL over time because the “sealed” interior makes the rubber belts age slower lmao
