Nader didn’t even get any electoral college votes - did he? In any case - here we are 26 years later an the dems still haven’t done a single tiny iota of a thing to get rid of the electoral college and fix the court. Although being that we have an out-of-control reactionary GOP court the dems are meekly discussing possible court reform.
He did not, and it wasn’t even close. The state he got the highest in was Alaska, at a little over 10%. In nearly every state only the candidate who gets the plurality of the popular vote gets any electoral votes.
He did not affect the outcome of the election, the only thing that changed it was the Supreme Court illegally stealing it for Bush.
I still remember the Harvey Birdman comeback special making a sharp jab at Nader in the year 2018

Iirc in Florida in 2000 more registered democrats voted for Bush than for Nader. They just ran a shit campaign, straight up. Nader had nothing to do with it

It’s very telling that liberals are so keen on rehabilitating the bush administration and the hawkish foreign policy that they aren’t willing to make it a party line that yes the 2000 election was credibly stolen via the Supreme Court and subsequent Gore capitulating.
The only time in my lifetime a third party candidate has had any actual effect on the election was Ross Perot, and he took votes away from the GOP candidate HW Bush.
The DNC love to pretend that third parties hamstring them and cause them to lose material votes, but it has literally never happened.
Funny enough too, dems never try to pass Ranked Choice Voting in their states so as to recapture all the people who do vote third party.

Yeah they do, and in hindsight I shouldn’t have exaggerated. But I think I make a strong point on how many democrats have this real way to get leverage on the GOP, and so often they choose not to use it. Mary Peltoa never would have won in Alaska without it, for example.
Plus the most common argument against it is one of its weakest “people are too stupid to properly use ranked choice voting!” and it’s hard to sell someone on a policy that goes “you’re a blithering idiot and will just be confused by the alternative.”
