I’m sure somebody told Hegseth that he could get rid of anyone that actually knew what they were doing at the Pentagon and just replace them with AI. And he believed it and did it. And here we are.
The Minab strike was the end of American Hegemony. This will be the inflection point for the history books that marks the decline of the American Empire. It’s the first time AI was used to cause a mass human casualty event. It galvanized Iranian resistance and allowed hardliners to seize the military cells that closed the strait. With the US out of allies, the conventional war profiteering strategy of “embroil our military partners in a hardware clearing sale” didn’t occur. The US carried on and depleted 10 years of missile production in 3 months, with the same hallucinating AI systems guiding strikes to dig deeper craters instead of actually disabling air defenses. The result was an inability to deny Iran from closing the strait. After the F-16 shootdown over Iran, air operations shut down and the window of opportunity was closed. At this point, Iran has enormous leverage, and the world realizes that American hard power has eroded just as far as soft power has, with USAID turned into a shadow of it’s former self. There’s no more reason to put up with the sanctions, threats and bullying that have worked for 100 years. Once the dollar is discarded as the world’s currency (and why wouldn’t nations use renminbi at this point, that’s where everything comes from anyways) the US will transition into a “middle power” and we’ll be entering a much more chaotic world.
This one AI hallucination has undone 150 years of US geopolitical supremacy. Even during the height of the cold war, when the USSR was an effective counter in public perception, they were nowhere near the same level of soft power projection. Palantir is gonna get away with it too. Their stock price has been juiced by the AI craze, despite their defense programs being the heart of the AI slop grenade that poisoned the golden goose.
Tbh Palantir is basically the exact opposite of AI LLM hallucination. Comparing it with ai hallucinations is doing the world a very big disservice and is playing down their systems a lot.
Palantir is a data aggregator of enormous proportions that is actually very good at visualising this data. From a Big data analyser it’s impressive. It’s so good it reduces a living being to data points and nothing more. It is so good at this that it can track when to kill your family when you are home, because your home is way less secure than your office and they employe this in the Gaza genocide for example.
It is very likely, that a wrong intelligence report is way more to blame for this or that it analysed that one of the children’s dad was a value target. The report was just wrong so the dad wasn’t there. The children’s are calculated collaterals to reduce moral in this systems and this is part of their press material btw.

There is a post on “slop grenades” in workforce (shoppify as AI early adopter) today. Nature of that article is whinning about all of the extra work involved in reviewing AI slop. AI is murdering people in this case because the required adequate review process is ignored. There is likelihood, in this case, that “cruelty is the point” strategic thinking was at play. AI containment/checks excuse as an after the fact explanation for defeat, and obvious unification reaction to “cruelty is the point” idiocy instead of surrender, is still one of the paths for AI to be a destructive force.
