    Not sure what people have against uncovering history and how it plays into the current.

    Some people are really not very different than Americans in their thought-ending processes or how it relates to policies today (“communist propaganda”, “who cares”, “its Canada’s past”).

    The resettled Nazis could still be alive and could still be spouting hateful or pro-Nazi rhetoric, as we saw 2 years ago with Yaroslav Hunka.

    Between 2010 and 2011, Hunka contributed to The Combatant News, a blog by an association of SS Galizien veterans, where he described his service in the SS as “the happiest two years of my life”.

    The Deschenes Commission recommended changes to criminal and citizenship law to allow Canada to prosecute war criminals, which Canada did and which is immensely relevant today considering how many Israeli-Canadians are taking part in the Palestinian genocide.

    However, even though Canada tried to prosecute Nazi war criminals, they would end up acquitting or dropping charges. In 1994, after several similar cases in which charges had been dropped, Canada said it would no longer prosecute Nazi war criminals.

    The second part of the final report, which concerns allegations against specific individuals, and contains an appendix listing 240 individuals suspected of war crimes, has never been made public

    With Canada claiming to fight antisemitism, while at the same time giving historically proud antisemites a pass, it’s worth knowing the history, how that ties into today’s policies, and what we should advocate for.

    I love my country, Canada, even with it’s blemishes like Thalidomide, Marc Lepine and Canadian soldiers in Somalia. Those are all from the past. A bit shameful and embarrassing but it only represents an infinitesimal portion of what this great country is all about. Go Tommy Douglas!!!

      I noticed you didn’t mention the ongoing genocide of 100 million natives, the countless warcrimes Canadians have committed on behalf of the United States, or the ongoing deep partnership with a country who’s been doing a genocide in the middle east for over 75 years.

      Patriotism is a poison designed to make you accept the wrongs of your country. Demand better.

    I thought this came out a year or more ago. I read something to that effect. Forget if it was connected to the old nazi the parliment gave a standing ovation to.

      It was heavily redacted to protect the identities of the people involved. A court recently ruled it didn’t need to be which brings us to today.

    Tankies must really be desperate if they post a story that happened half a century ago in another attempt to make Canada look bad. OP is also posting ‘news’ from Chinese state media and other propaganda outlets, but apparently not even there are relevant posts today.
