for some reason, i can’t hate them for this. i mean i never get food delivered like that anyways, so maybe my feelings don’t matter. but obviously things are not easy for under drivers.

Its an absolutely garbage service and needs to no longer exist. All food delivery services like this are trash and I refuse to use them. And ridicule/shame everyone that does.

how else are you supposed to deliver food to a friend in a different city/state without telling them?

You do realize you could still call a location and ask them to deliver it? God I’m old.

Uh maybe if you give the guy like 50€ to bother bringing you food after work instead of going straight home, can’t imagine they’d do it for much less after a hard day of work?

The vast majority of restaurants no longer have their own delivery capacity

Higher prices still mean higher profits for Uber, right?

Last time I got surge pricing here it was 3x the price and the driver told me he only got a 20%ish increase on his pay, so yeah, uber pockets most of the difference

Companies like Uber frequently charge customers more and try to pocket the difference. They lowball drivers and hope they accept the lower fee.

I wonder if anti monopoly laws would apply to those independent contractors?

where is the boundary between a sufficiently powerful union and a monopoly on labor?

          A monopoly on labour? Lmfao

That would unironically be the most based thing ever, because all labour would become class conscious and form a monopoly. Capitalists can get fucked

A monopoly on labour is not a thing, because labour is not a resource that is controllable by anyone in that way. (Excepting slavery and feudalism)

a sufficiently broad non-compete can absolutely control labour supply, unless /until it is deemed unlawful

What they are doing probably falls under anti cartell law rather than anti monopoly
