Ok, yeah, definitely had an update since we bought a couple years ago. At least it looks like the wifi stuff is for firmware updates only.

Uh, the one we have doesn’t do any wifi. Turn the dual to set the temp and push it to heat to temp. Maybe that’s what the “pro” stuff is about? And agreed, that’s absolutely silly.
We have a Fellow Stagg EKG for pour overs, and it works great.
If the gooseneck spout isn’t your cup of tea, it looks like they have a standard spout version too.
The prices are not for the faint of heart.

8·9 days ago“Please note that I am not deducting points because you have certain beliefs,” the instructor wrote in feedback obtained by The Oklahoman. Instead, the instructor said the paper did “not answer the questions for the assignment.”
The paper “contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive” the criticism went on.
Open and shut. This student deserves the failing grade.

Drei bier ist auch ein schnitzel und dann hast du nichts getrunken.
Three beers are also a schnitzel and then you drank nothing.
I don’t speak German, but this phrase spoke to me.
Sometimes you dialed the wrong number and somebody totally unexpected would answer.
You just apologized for dialing the wrong number.
I still have several of my childhood friend’s numbers stuck in my head.

2·14 days agoAs a kid that didn’t understand lactose intolerance until my 20s, this would be life-changing. Instead of discomfort and the urge to shit my pants on a daily basis, I could have felt normal. I regularly had to stop and clench my cheeks together on the walk home from the bus stop after holding farts in all afternoon.
I was going to buy the Lego Star Trek enterprise, but it was sold out before I got there. Oh well, they saved me from myself with artificial supply restrictions.
Instead, I didn’t buy anything.

Haha, I’m no Gordon Ramsay. I just grew up in upper Midwest USA turkey country where black pepper was spicy, Italian seasoning was exotic, and ketchup went with everything (thanks to the ketchup advisory board, of course). I had way, way too many awful dry, bland thanksgiving meals.
I still have yet to have some turkey that really changes my mind about it. The closest I’ve come is a heritage turkey we paid something like $14/lb for 10 years ago. It was ultimately pretty tasty, but definitely not worth the hassle of procurement, cost, and obviously doesn’t scale (I think it was a 9lb bird).
For turkey: throw it away and make something good. Prime rib usually converts the olds once they can smell it.
If grandma insists on a goddamn classic turkey, tell her that this is her version of her mother-in-law’s fucking microwaved lutefisk and spatchcock or break down the bird. Make your stuffing in a separate pan, there’s no reason to even chance salmonella on your bread.
To OP, agreed, canned french cut green beans, but fuck Campbell’s and their shitty cream soups. Make your own cream sauce. Maybe try something coconut cream-based and lean into some light curry flavors (ignore Grandpa’s protestations about it being different and weird). We get enough food monoculture with this stupid meal.
And if you’re making sweet potatoes, for the sake of anything sacred, don’t make that candy-sweet marshmallow and brown sugar abomination. Chop and roast them on a pan with oil adding only savory spices. The sweet potato is already sweet (hint: it’s in the name).

Sigh. I’d kill to have my $1700 premium back. 2024 I got cancelled and it was fair plan shit for $7500 or $9000 for proper coverage.
I live on the edge of town inside the city’s fire district with a hydrant just down the driveway and less than a mile from the fire station. My house is pretty average and reasonably well defended. My neighbors are seeing the same thing with their insurers.
That means for full protection for our house, we’re looking at $20k/yr. Because earthquake insurance is just over 10k. Utterly preposterous.
