I’d love if we had a general strike in Brazil against the pretty similar trade deals we’re getting here, and even though Brazilians are the second most obnoxious nationality online (I get to say it) I don’t see how bringing that up would contribute to the conversation. No hate to the USA lefties, I think their strikes against ICE were pretty nice actually, but it doesn’t have to always be about them.
Imagine seeing the “largest strike in human history” in the world’s most populous country and your immediate reaction is to think about people in the USA and USA reporting and how the USA could do that too. Come on, you’re better than this. Probably.
To avoid being just another comment pretending to be useful while actually just talking about the USA, here’s the CPofIndia on the demands of the strike:

6·2 months agoThey were on the first camp in part because of that. Rather than having a party be “free for all” but in reality only for those of means, it would be restricted to those who dedicated their lives fully to the party. I haven’t read this myself so I can’t attest to it, but some comrades have claimed that they even went so far as to cover living expenses of militants with party funds.

44·2 months agoOnly in the USA is a party talking about another party positively a leak-worthy sinister plot against democracy.
Also “Xinjiang genocide” in 2026? I thought we were already over that when every single travel influencer both in and out of China went there and the government even used this as a tourist attraction.

15·2 months agoKinda but it wasn’t just about being secretive and selective. It was over whether membership should be extended only to professional and dedicated militants, or also to supporters regardless of dedication. It’s a common issue “open” mass parties that they cultivate a petit bourgeois tendency because middle class people are the main group able to dedicate their time to the party.

26·3 months agoLots of people calling it “just a book club” in the thread. Apparently they were actually doing vanguard party work (read source with grain of salt) and at least one was a Communist Party member. If you aren’t organised yourself you should refrain from belittling others’ praxis.
Also keep in mind that they were arrested in March 2022, right after the beginning of the SMO. I can’t find much reliable information on them in English (the source above has some inaccuracies and mentions an unnamed escapee writing inexistent articles), so I can’t really tell if the accusations hold water.
But communists getting arrested in bourgeois republics during times of war should surprise nobody. They could possibly be considering revolutionary defeatism as a tactic. Either way, the criminal case seems to hinge way more on the (maybe planted) weapons than a book that’s nowhere near illegal.
Either way, here’s a long article in Russian. I can’t read it, and auto translation hinders critical analysis, but might be useful if anyone here can dissect it. A lot of the wording is suspect and this newspaper is a BBC partner.

9·4 months agoYeah, if he backs down and joins the Dems on this it’s fucked. But at least we can have the assurance that that would be a terrible choice for him, losing all anti-zionist support while never ever being allowed to escape the ghost of “antisemitism”. If he actually backs that legislation (I’m not sure from the wording) and it gets passed, it’s political suicide.

16·4 months agoI see this as a positive, actually. Makes his team think twice before backing down on opposing Israel, because they’ll never he’ll never be accepted as a regular Democrat like AOC. Look at Tlaib and Omar.
I think some people are probably going to see through it.
I think good evidence that people are seeing through it is that not only did he win the primary, but he won the actual election without full party support. This is not like Corbyn where he won the leadership and then got surprised by the antisemitism allegations. He has been under this attack from the very beginning, and it failed.
But, I can tell you from talking to my parents that they think that he’s “already failed” because of this incident.
Genuine question, did they support him before this? Because it’s hard to tell if they’re already detractors doomsaying, or if they’re genuinely disappointed.

27·5 months agoThey might test the waters “disappearing” a lesser known activist first. The flotilla fleets are going to keep coming, and executing some activists “by accident” will probably be a tactic used for intimidation.

Guess how many people who are caught in possession of it are going to get prosecuted versus the number of gigantic porn sites and studios that make stupid amounts of money over distributing it. Also, like CSAM, watching it on a browser through one of those distributors could technically count as “possession”. The fact that they’re focusing so much on the “prison” punishment rather than fines or service takedowns means they’re not even pretending to go after producers.
I’d also like to read some actual sources with regards to the relation of consumption of pornographic simulations of incest and actual real life abuse. I have no strong opinion either way, but the position there seems a bit “it is known”. The porn industry itself, on the other hand, is filled to the brim with very well documented abuse no matter how much the big sites pinkwash it. I suppose Labour doesn’t care about workers, what a surprise.
Ah, yes, safe pornography. \s
Meanwhile, Musk’s little mechahitler chatbot is still out there helping brits to make nonconsensual porn. Just block the mechahitler website, you cowards.
