5·1 day agoI was about to say Brooklyn podcasters too. But most of them started as suburbanites.
It really is sad and pathetic how far we’ve regressed.

2·2 days agoYeah I don’t like AI or support the widespread use in the way we are seeing. However I do see the nuances to the various models and their use cases within reason.
Broad statements about AI/LLMs based solely on the evil corporate corner of the space doesn’t benefit anyone.

19·2 days agoWait, is the Debian guy being called a fascist here?
Is he actually problematic? Or is this an AI pilled dingus just using whatever words they want?

6·3 days agoI know a nurse who would complain incessantly about the vaccine mandate and their hospital. Coincidentally, the same person who was all over facebook yelling about sharia law in Michigan.

13·3 days agoso if they get a bizarre medical idea in their head, they aren’t going to be talked out of it by someone who isn’t also a nurse, or a doctor or something
Right! And then the combination of confidence and arrogance that leads to this type of mindset.

45·3 days agoAnecdotally, I’ve heard some of the most shit medical takes from nurses. Even doctors have shown complete ignorance regarding people’s immunocompromised status.

4·5 days agoCounterproductive idea, sure, but I feel that forking python 2 is at least more in line with open source principles. Incorporating the CSAM machines into Calibre is bad in every way.

2·5 days agoHoly crap! That’s so bad…
The industry of that time period is always going to be a source of health issues going forward. The damage from that time still can’t be realistically measured I don’t think.

3·5 days agoAaaah yeah fair enough. My brain immediately took the perspective of “what’s the right way to handle this”. I admittedly didn’t take into account the obvious fact that our regulatory bodies are all a facade now.
But yeah, you get it. It’s a massive undertaking that even when operating correctly intends to limit exposure more than clean it up. So many of the sites I’m familiar with are decades old and the only recourse they have is to make sure a school or daycare isn’t developed on top of it.

5·5 days agoExcept it’s not usually contamination like you would see in a movie with ominous barrels covered in hazmat stickers. Sometimes it’s an old oil or petrol tank underground that needs to be removed, but the physical part of that removal is not the end of it.
The type of contamination at these sites normally requires long extensive mitigation and monitoring to ensure the that the source is not still leaching and that the levels of material are naturally dissipating at the expected rate assuming the source was found.
