I don’t believe someone in this type of position would say something like this, unless a profound shift in society is taking place.

    OK, sure, but publicly saying that it’s God will to die in battle against the gestapo is still something else entirely. It might be logical that this is the first church to say it, but the fact that any church (or other element of established instotutions) says something like this is absolutely insane (laudatory). I’m tempted to use the term “prerevolutionary conditions”.
