    Because of cameras like these, I’ve gotten a speed citation from a town I’ve never been to, had never heard of before. The photo was very indistinct and it had misidentified the license plate. It took several phone calls to sort that one out.

    I’m conflicted.

    On one hand, fuck surveillance and the state that does it.

    But on the other hand, it’s not that hard to just go the fucking speed limit, people. And then you don’t have to worry about this at all.

      There is also a difference between a speed camera that only uploads when a car is caught speeding & Flock camera that is just surveillance.

      I prefer investing in infrastructure (narrower roads, raised curbs, roundabouts, etc), but at least speed cameras and red light cameras have some marginal safety benefit if done right.

      The survailance cameras council voted 7-1 to put in don’t even do that.
