Every self identified Marxist Leninist I’ve ever met in this country is the most bohemian, well-read, emotionally intelligent person I’ve ever met. Whereas we still have vestiges of anti-intersectional, reactionary coded thinking of the dirtbag left that has taken over podcasts and the online left, .ml’s for the most part are very much traditionalists when it comes to informed and holistic materialist analysis.

I have no evidence for this but I think the .ml comrades skew younger than hexbearians and as a result weren’t as exposed to the dirtbag left. This is based primarily on myself and a few other .ml users who’s ages I have estimated from context.

and realizing it’s some of the only sane analysis in the room and MAYBE it’s time to pick up Marx and see what that’s about because oh my god rent costs WHAT now? And there AREN’T riots over it?And then there was that one podcast they went on with like the NYT or similar and the consultant firm hack analysists they were talking to just literally couldn’t figure out what to say to some of the most uncontroversial questions like “hey if the US didn’t have nukes and Iran did, and Iran murdered a US general, how would you feel? Okay, now imagine you’re Iranian”. I should dig that up again and see what held up or not.
So yeah that was certainly a super specific time to have a political awakening I think you’re onto something there.

Graeber wrote good books. I think he absolutely shit the bed on the Occupy movement. Vincent Bevins wrote a whole book about why his and methods similar to his have been a disaster in their consequences.
