I’m only 60 hours in, but i just found out that multiple generators connected to a power pole increases its capacity - i assumed poles were capped at 75Watts.
Found this out after bringing over a whole bunch of power poles from one side of the map to my oil factories im building.
Then found out coal generators can run on petroleum coke and i didnt need to bring power over from my coal factories.
Dam i love this game lol
Oh, your just getting started 😄
Haha good, i had no idea how fun this game would be
Man I wish I could play this game for the first time again. Best of luck with your run!
Cheers lol i already cant wait to start a new run with everything ive learnt so far
Oh man, the biggest grid failure I ever had was, I deleted a single power pole that looked redundant. It wasn’t, and it cut off half of an entire coal plant. 28 coal generators were now powering their own two coal miners, their own water collectors, a single limestone miner and three concrete constructors. Most of the power they made wasn’t going anywhere, and the power grid was now short by about 2GW. Power storage plus the two biofuel generators on the HUB kept things running for a surprisingly long time; I had oil power and hydrothermal up as well, and I’d only cut off half that coal plant, not the whole one. But eventually the entire grid collapsed. Trains were crashing into each other, it took awhile to figure out what had gone wrong.
A month ago i would have had no idea what you were talking lol. How bad is the paranoia when you are waiting to see if you’ve isolated the problem or if the powering off sound happens again.
Lol i had a backup generator powering 1 random pump that i forgot about and when it told me i had lost power i spent so fucking long combing through every single thing id made until i found it. The whole time im thinking “is this a glitch? How is everything still running?”
After a catastrophe like that left me on my first save with no power for 3 hours (no coal on the lines and a huge mess of wiring to debug in order to isolate the generation and bootstrap it once again) I went nuts on the second one. I decided that guaranteeing each power plant could self start was the way, I did that by keeping a single extra disconnected generator with enough resources to restart each power tier separate from the whole grid just by changing a couple of wires and maybe moving a pipe or belt (this was before switches)
Finally on my 1.0 save I even made 3 separate distribution grids: on my highway, on poles and on train tracks connecting each section of generation, production and power storage separately to all 3 via priority switches just in case I needed to do some complicated procedure to restart the plant like connecting just coal to batteries until there was enough power to start fuel generation and then gradually reconnect several areas to fuel while I recharged batteries from coal to restart nuclear.
Never ended up needing them because by then I knew better, but it made a nice looking control panel
