    I mean, $40 / h for waitstaff sounds OK, no? That’s 80k per year if working full-time.

      Yes although the article is discussing a restaraunt in the most expensive city in the US, but $40/hr would be just fine if they would allow proper urban development (to lower/ stabilize housing prices)

      60k after tax. Sounds manageable even if half of that is rent.

      But then again that’s just the highest pay mentioned in the article. The other tipfree Californian restaurant pays just $21

        $21 per hour and no tips sounds much worse. IIUC minimum wage for fast-food workers in California is $20 per hour, so basically you get paid minimum wage and can’t take any tips. Awful
