I don’t. My work schedule is flexible, I have a five-minute commute, and I can sleep and wake up pretty much whenever I want to.
I’m on track to retire in my mid-30s due to not having the expenses that my co-workers with kids do, and I don’t have to do a damn thing before or after work I’m just sitting on a couch drinking a beer and watching anime when I get home. I’m 2 miles from work and don’t have to be there until 10 but that’s not necessarily the norm.
Damn, you must’ve been fortunate with job placement. Wtf. Half of my 20s was jobless, not for a lack of trying.
I got my good paying job at 24 and saved most of my money, but as a single person I spent $20k/yr total cost of living while living in a room in someone’s basement and a lot of that was just takeout and beer honestly.
I’m sorry but if you’ve been in the workforce for 10 years and are ready to retire soon you’re either doing some really bad math, are a prodigy making 7 figures since the age of 24, inherited money from someone else, or are planning to live off beer in someone’s basement for the next 50 years
I think 78k was my salary back then, the stock market has done really well the last decade. $1.5 million is the amount I plan to retire with.

I too have flexible work schedule but I don’t feel like working untill 7pm which is why I wake up at 6am.
Yeah I can flex all the time I want but I still have to hit my 40hrs and fuck working in the evenings. I’d rather just get up and do it so I can get on with the rest of my life so 6am it is.
8AM? School must start very late where you live. Classes started at 7:45 for me, so wakeup time would’ve been more like 6:30.
My bus arrived at 6:15am. We had to get up even earlier here.

Really? Where do you live? In the UK schools run from 9am-3.30pm.
Where I grew up in the States, the elementary, middle schools and high schools shared a transportation department. Because of this school start times were staggered as buses would pick up highschool students and drop off at school, then make runs to pick up the elementary and middle schools, again staggering to accommodate different start times.
This meant that students at any of the schools could get dropped off anywhere from 25 minutes early to just before classes started (from 7:30-9:00am.) The end of the day was also staggered, with school getting out between 2:30-3:30.
Germany. Started at 7:45 and ended anywhere from 1PM to 4PM.
Worst I’ve had in Germany was 7:50 AM to 5:30 PM, that was fun.

My wife and I wake up at ~6:30am to get our daughter on her bus. We are not morning people, in fact we are quite emphatically night people. Left to our own devices, we will sleep more like 1am-9am. We knew this when we had our kid, and we figured that our circadian rhythms would naturally adjust to the baby’s.
They did not. It’s been six years since I had what felt to me like a “normal” sleep schedule.
I love my daughter, she’s my reason for living, I wouldn’t trade her for anything, not by a long shot.
But nobody should fuck around with parenting, and nobody should have to be convinced to do it, let alone coerced. The very idea of someone doing this without 100% wanting to do it sounds like just about the worst kind of hell I can imagine, for both parent and offspring.

Heh, my cat does the same to my parents when they visit.
Not to me though. My cat knows I ain’t gonna get up and feed him until I’m awake. He will wait patiently and judge silently. Loud meowing only works on my parents.

LoL, you think it’s 8am! Here school starts at 8:30, and kids need a stupidly long time to get ready! Our usual wake up time is 7:15am, but it is not too uncommon that our kid wakes us up just before the alarm.
12-15 years of helping them go to school, then 10 years of helping them avoid terrible life choices when they are most prone to making them and least likely to listen to you, then 5-10 years of worrying about their career and finances and then you can finally start everything again with your grandchildren. Yay!
