I don’t know if it’s a national app or what but we have ads around here for a gambling app named “JackPocket” and I can’t help but wonder how much the board was giggling about that name when they agreed on it.

My last tank was $170 and I got generic ads for “soda” nothing branded just “hey buy a cold drink inside” I’ll accept that but if an actual external ad plays I put the pump back and goto the next station.

I have yet to encounter a gas station pump that displays ads that hasn’t been wholly vandalized to the point of non-functionality. I think I’d have to find a gas station being built the day they install the pumps to actually see them working. And then I would break them myself.
There are a couple of American Express cards that give you 3% cash back on Gas (including one with a low annual fee, that also gives 6% back on groceries up to the first $6000 spent per year).
That helps.
There’s a gas station chain near me that doesn’t play ads, usually has the best prices, and gives 10c off per gallon if you use their app linked to a checking account…that helps, too.
I miss the days when that was the better deal…

Dollar Tree is more expensive per oz than MicroCenter, but having a little can of air around is pretty damn handy, and not a huge investment…
And the only chance I get to go to Microcenter is when I go to work, since it’s near my office, but I’ve been WFH since covid and it’s like an hour and a half from here.
I actually use a rechargeable air blower at home because it’s so much cheaper lol.

and hope that someone else in the state has the exact same car model/color with plates that match the part of the plate that your leaf didn’t obscure.

Correct. Loud, half blown speakers, usually three adds in a cycle. If we just avoid stations that have them.
I’ve started blasting death metal as load as possible when this happens. If my ears are going to be assaulted I’ll just double down with the noise i want to hear. Luckily the pump i go to has never done this so i try and go there everytime.
Some/most gas stations that auditorily assault us like this also have the option to mute the sound. Usually a vertical row of buttons on the right side of the screen, push each button sequentially from top to bottom and the sound might mute.
Usually the top middle button, at least at Shell stations in my experience

I carry a bluetooth speaker on my chest so that I can crank up my own personal soundtrack whenever unwanted audio is imposed on me. =U

When it’s obvious from the start you can just drive to a different station (for now), but when it sneaks up on me is when I get angry.

Most public transit that I’ve ever been on has ads in the stations and the vehicles. Does Germany manage to avoid that?

Here’s what we Americans have to deal with at the gas pumps
We are paying three dollars more per gallon here in Germany because of the stupid war your country started in Iran, while you are largely unaffected yourself because of your own oil production
Largely unaffected? Our prices have soared since the war in Iran. Our prices were substantially lower before Iran because of our local oil production but it’s very clear to most Americans that our fossil fuel consumption is largely supplemented but foreign oil. And we are seeing the result at the pump. Sorry you’re paying even more but you were paying more than us before too.
You’re still paying less than many of us were paying before, man the fuck up and stop complaining. Literally living in one of the most privileged countries in the world.
America just cares about it’s own interests, and every time I see a country work with them, I’m just waiting for the betrayal to come.

The pump at my regular gas station used to have a hidden mute button. Hold down the top right button next to the screen and voila no annoying ad noise.
After a a year of this they replaced the pumps and now I cant mute the ads anymore. Sad face.
