That’s the amount of economic value AI will have to deliver to justify all the investment

The reality is that everyone with a phone or internet pretty much is in contact with AI all the time.

Logistics, e-commerce, financials, healthcare, algorithms, Apple Gemini Meta, keyboard autocomplete

Sure the ChatGPT chatbot won’t pay for it.

What’s the 6,7 trillion about? North American market?

This is pretty easily doable. If everyone who uses ChatGPT paid $6700 per month as a subscription fee then OpenAI could cover this cost alone. /s

But don’t worry, its providing great new jobs for humans!

AI agents rent a human, complete captchas for £0.02 per pack of 5.

So, either the bubble bursts and 99% of the sector’s value evaporates in a spectacular flash… or, one of these stochastic parrots turns into a magical genie that gives Sam Altman three wishes.

    He likes those odds!

Which would suit me fine if it was just that sector’s value that evaporated. I’d be happy to never hear of OpenAI, Anthropic or even NVidia ever again. But it won’t just wipe them our, it’ll hit the vast array of banks, investment funds (including people’s superannuation and 401ks) funding them, and kill the world economy.

It should still definitely happen though, and sooner rather than later, the longer it’s delayed the bigger the bubble gets and the longer the recovery is likely to be.

Fuck the banks first of all I hope they die. But the feds will bail them out, either party, both parties will bail them out, borrowing other peoples’ money is their reason for being.

Guys, it’s not a bubble. Super not a bubble. Totally, for sure not a bubble. Not even a little bit a bubble.

Might be… But then who’s going to pay those $6T to Anthropic and/or OpenAI when there is no longer an economy?

Once labor is replaced it can be liquidated. 8 million humans will own all the earth and it’s resources no need to share with the other 8 billion anymore.

They can’t see past their next set of financial statements and their stock prices. They are unable to act in long term interest, just as capital has outsourced our industry and destroyed the base of consumers that were buying their products in the first place.

Who knows what they think though, they are all very impressed with themselves and their ability you can be sure, they could well have very warped views on how it would play out if they got their way.

History has been consistent in showing that capitalism gives zero cares about long term consequences for short term profit.

I think it is non-manual labour that they want to replace. In their world, people will still have to earn money, but not with their brain or expertise but with their hands and/or bodies.

Well, Robotics is (allegedly) making big progress too. Have you seen those robot dogs replacing security guards, self-driving cars replacing human drivers, or the level of automation reported in Chinese car factories? Even warfare has changed, largely automating the once manual job of murdering your neighbors.

But that aside, even if manual labor still exists in this future automation dystopia, if it’s all that’s left, the economy will still shrink considerably.

It is not going to though. And even if it was capable of that, it still wouldn’t provide them with anything near 6 trillions.
