Explorers is a 1985 American science fantasy film written by Eric Luke and directed by Joe Dante. The film stars Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix, both in their film debuts, and Jason Presson as young teenage boys who build a spacecraft to explore outer space. The special effects were produced by Industrial Light & Magic, with make-up effects by Rob Bottin.

A young boy named Ben experiences a vivid dream containing a hidden blueprint for a mysterious electronic circuit. His brilliant friend Wolfgang builds the device and discovers it generates a controllable, weightless force field. Joined by their friend Darren, the boys use salvaged junk and an old tilt-a-whirl car to construct a makeshift spaceship they name the Thunder Road. They launch their invention into orbit and get pulled aboard a massive alien spacecraft by a tractor beam.
